Basudeb for early completion of Tripura rail project

Basudeb Acharya, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways held a high level meeting with Transport Minister Manik Dey and officials of the Transport department.Official sources said, the on-going work of Agartala-Kumarghat rail project was reviewed in the meeting.Talking to reporters at Civil Secretariat, Acharya said he has come to review the progress of the on-going rail construction sites in West Tripura district.

“The construction work needs to be geared up to meet the deadline to connect Agartala through rail network”, he said adding the work should be completed by October next so that rail can reach Agartala by first week of December, this year.The Agartala-Kumarghat rail link, which was announced as a national project was supposed to be completed by end of March this year but was not because of tardy pace of work.He said the Rail Board would hold a meeting on April 20 next to review the rail project.

Acharya said that an amount of Rs 47 crore had been allocated for the ongoing Kumarghat-Agartala rail project during this Rail budget and there would be no dearth of fund to execute the project.

Acharya further said allocation will be made in the supplementary Rail budget for the extension of rail link up to Sabroom. The Railway Ministry could not allocate fund in the full fledged budget for this purpose because no preliminary work was done
