Call
for review of NEC-Alliance Air pact
The North-Eastern states have called for review of the agreement between the
North Eastern Council (NEC) and Alliance Air, besides rationalisation of the
air fares in the region. The recommendation of the States of Nagaland and
Mizoram was in response to the report of the Foundation of Aviation and
Sustainable Tourism on air connectivity in the region. The NEC had engaged
the organisation. The report has been circulated among the member States for
comments.
According to Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Mani
Shankar Aiyar, so far only two states, Nagaland and Mizoram have sent their
response.The two states have stated that air connectivity, particularly
intra-region, needed to be further improved and airfares have been
rationalized in North-east, he said in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
The two state governments have also suggested reviewing the present
arrangements between NEC and Alliance Air and also installation of the
International Landing System at all the airports in the region, Aiyar added
