Call for review of NEC-Alliance Air pact

The North-Eastern states have called for review of the agreement between the North Eastern Council (NEC) and Alliance Air, besides rationalisation of the air fares in the region. The recommendation of the States of Nagaland and Mizoram was in response to the report of the Foundation of Aviation and Sustainable Tourism on air connectivity in the region. The NEC had engaged the organisation. The report has been circulated among the member States for comments.

According to Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Mani Shankar Aiyar, so far only two states, Nagaland and Mizoram have sent their response. The two states have stated that air connectivity, particularly intra-region, needed to be further improved and airfares have been rationalized in North-east, he said in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.

The two state governments have also suggested reviewing the present arrangements between NEC and Alliance Air and also installation of the International Landing System at all the airports in the region, Aiyar added
