High-level meeting on Tripura rail project A meeting to expedite the ongoing rail extension project in Tripura, convened by Chief Secretary will be held on December 30 next. The meeting will mainly discuss the progress of Agartala-Udaipur rail link. The meeting will be attended by high officials of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Transport department and CPWD. It is learnt that land problem is the main reason for delay in project. In Bishalgarh area a land measuring 5.50 km is yet to handed over to NFR. The October dateline was missed as the State government could not hand over the land to NFR due to opposition by local people. “We have already cleared some disputes and acquisition process is on way to get completed some more areas”, said P. K. Das, Land Acquisition Collector (LAC). “The work will get expedited when the problem centering land acquisition is get over”, he said. 44 km Agartala-Udaipur rail extension project is to be completed by March 2012. Construction works to meet the dateline are on full-swing. Moreover, the survey for land acquisition for the 75 km Udaipur-Sabroom rail project has been begun. “The required land for the project barring forest land has already been handed over to NFR to the survey”, informed one official. The rail link up to Sabroom, Southern part of the State is slated to be completed by March 2013 next. |
