Manipur releases five leaders

The Government of Manipur under section 14 (1) (a) of the National Security Act (NSA), 1980 revoked the detention of the five leaders of Manipur Students Federation (MSF) under NSA have been released from Sajiwa Jail in Imphal. The MSF leaders are Ksh. Rishikanta Singh (28) son of Ksh. Boro of Soibum Laikei Porompat working as assistant organization secretary who was caught by the Manipur police on August 20 this year, L.Ibomcha Singh (29) son of L. Angou Singh of Wangkhei, he was former vice president of MSF (he was caught on August 30), Md. Atab Uddin (28) son of Md. Iboshana of Thoubal Mangjing , presently working as vice president of MSF (he was caught on August 8), N. Leishemba Singh (25) son of N. Pishak of Yairipok at present Wangkhei, former assistant secretary MSF (he was caught on August 30) and L. Gojendro Singh (28) son of Late L. Jugon Singh of Babupara, working as ex-president of MSF,Imphal west ( he was caught on August 21).

They were released unconditionally by issuing discharge from the Chief  Judicial Magistrate Court (CJM).  Right after the release from the jail they were received by the MSF officials at its Assembly road office, Imphal. On the reception programme, MSF president , Sanjoy  said that they (just release leaders of MSF) were arrested in connection with the aided college apathy strikes, picketing of government offices, confiscating of goverenment files, burning of files, banning the government related taxes among others.

For all these the MSF leaders were caught and put in the jail by the state government, rued the president of MSF. Following the arrest of the MSF leaders, its supporters have demanded the release of  the five detainees by imposing  36 hours general strike on November 21 and 22 starting from 6 am to 6 pm, government as well as private carriers on government’s duty were blocked as part of the agitation and some of the secondary schools in an around Imphal launched protest rally for the release of the five detained leaders on November 27, he cited.

He further stressed on the treatment meted out to the students leaders by harassing them in several ways including detaining unreasonably, saying any kind of problems need to be solve before it goes out of proportion. In the same vein, he pointed out that the Education minister had also remained mere mute spectator on all the issues related to the students grievances.

While explaining the banning of several activities in Manipur by the MSF, the MSF statement warned that it has taken the stand to ban any sorts of ‘ Miss Manipur contest’ until NACHOM’S case is solved and agreement is done.
