Manipur CM to contest from two constituencies

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh will contest the forthcoming Assembly elections from two neighbouring constituencies – Thoubal and Khangabok – as the Congress announced a list of 19 candidates for the first phase polls in the State on February 8.

Party sources said Ibobi Singh will fight against former Speaker L Jatra Singh (Manipur People’s Party) in Khangabok Assembly segment from where he had been elected in the last Assembly polls. The Chief Minister would also contest from neighbouring Thoubal Assembly constituency.

Among the list of 19 Congress candidates for the first phase polls, former Power Minister M Okendra Singh will contest from Heirok, Planning and Development authority chairman K Ranjit Singh and present Power Minister Francis Ngajokpa would be candidates from Sugnu and Tadubi (st) respectively.

Manipur will have three phase polling on February 8, 14 and 23 for the 60-member Assembly.The political parties in the State have started to announce their candidates’ names for the forthcoming three-phased State Assembly polls beginning from February 8 next.Ruling Secular Progressive Front partner, the Communist Party of India has announced its first list of 23 candidates including two lady candidates. The names of all five sitting MLAs figure in the first list.

In addition the party is fielding former Lok Sabha MP Kim Gangte from Henglep Assembly constituency of Churachandpur district.
