Political uncertainty continues in Meghalaya The political uncertainty in Meghalaya is likely to continue for the moment, as AICC secretary in-charge Ved Prakash is yet to submit his report to AICC president Sonia Gandhi.Ved Prakash said that he is going to hand over the envelope containing the secret ballots to the party president, who will take a final decision.Sources hinted that the AICC may not act in a hurry and the Congress president might summon both Chief Minister, J.D. Rymbai and DD Lapang to Delhi. Alternately an observer may go from here to Shillong yet again to resolve the crisis, sources said. The immediate concern for the Congress leadership is the Assembly polls scheduled next year. With P.A.Sangma projecting himself as the chief ministerial candidate, the party is worried. On the other hand, Congress MLAs have told AICC that the prospects of winning the Assembly polls under Rymbai’s leadership was bleak and change of face was needed to stem the slide. Lapang, who was thrown out at the behest of the MLAs, however, has managed to win back the support of most of the legislators and may yet again emerge as the consensus candidate.Party sources said that AICC president has on more than one occasion said that she was against the idea of frequent change of Chief Minister.
