Tripura Govt, NBCC sign MoU

Tripura Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NBCC to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) to get maximum benefit under the three Centrally-sponsored schemes for urban infrastructure and development of urban poor.

These schemes include JNNURM and UIDSSMT.

According to the MoU, NBCC has been given opportunity to prepare DPRs for Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) and 12 Nagar Panchayats by March 2007. “The NBCC authorities were requested to prepare maximum number of DPRs to pave the way for maximum benefit from three Centrally sponsored schemes”, said Urban Development Minister Manik Dey on Wednesday.

He said the State Government wants to submit at least two projects for AMC and one each for NPs to the Ministry of Urban Development to build up urban infrastructure in urban areas.“NBCC CMD Arup Roy Choudhury has assured all possible help”, he said.

While talking to reporters, NBCC CMD said the Central Government has allocated Rs. 50,000 crore for development of urban facilities across the country.

“The allocation will be spent for 63 selective cities including Agartala in the next five to six years”, he said adding that the funding pattern for Agartala will be 90:10.

The NBCC, responsible for successful implementation of the development of road network, drainage, heritage buildings, eight market complexes and bus terminus in and around the State capital, is preparing a comprehensive project report for implementing similar projects in all twelve Nagar Panchyats spread across the State.

The PSU giant would maintain the highest standard of work in all the projects being taken up by it.

Roychowdhury called on Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in the latter’s official chamber and apprised him of the latest position of the projects being implemented by NBCC.

“The Chief Minister appreciated our work and said that NBCC would be entrusted with similar works all over the State in future also and quite naturally this has encouraged us quite a lot”, Roychowdhury said.

He added that as part of the future planning for State capital Agartala, the entire drainage system would be upgraded and arrangements made for laying underground of telephone, electric and water supply networks of cables and pipelines.
