14 people killed

At least 14 people have been killed and critically injured scores of others when a passenger bus fell into a deep in Manipur's southern district of Churachandpur.The passenger bus bearing registration number MN-0L 8443 carrying 48 passengers was traveling a place called Tuila to the district headquarters when the accident occurred in the morning.

Reports said that 14 persons including a minor died instantly at the spot while many other passengers were injured critically. The gorge is reported to have been about 300 metres deep.It is believed that the cause of the accident has been due to the mechanical failure.The iron rod called U-bolt which controls the brakes of the vehicle broke which had led to the fatal accident.All the injured had been admitted to District Hospital of Churachandpur while two of them have been brought down to Imphal's RIMS.Local MLAs, police and other public leaders had rushed to the spot and attended the victims.The exact location where the accident occurred has been some 18 km away from the district headquarters.
