Tripura CM stresses on tourism infrastructure

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar urged the Union Government to develop infrastructure in NE States which has tremendous potential in the field of tourism.Inaugurating the five-day long North East Tourism Festival at Rabindra Bhavan here yesterday in the presence of participants from eight NE States, he emphasized on development of adequate infrastructure to boost inflow of travellers to the State.

“We have huge potential for tourism. But we also have to ensure that the requirements of the tourists are available when they come here”, he said.Chief Minister came down heavily on the poor service of BSNL and private mobile service provider which has emerged as main bottleneck to attract tourists.

West Bengal Tourism Minister Manadendra Mukherjee, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, alleged that the Central Government did not seem interested in properly building infrastructure for tourism in the Eastern region. The Central Government always publicizes Jaipur, Kerala, Goa and other destinations in the western region.

“But the Himalaya in this region has tremendous potential to increase tourist inflow in the region. Unfortunately, there is no move for the region by the Central Government”, he said.

Assam, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh participated in the festival and put up stalls to give information about the tourist potential of their respective States. The pavilion of Assam Tourism department attracted the organizers.
