PM assures all help to State

Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, who has been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam for the fourth consecutive time, has assured that he would try his best to provide all possible help to Assam in the days to come. Dr Singh, who has been declared elected unopposed, called up the Chief Minister immediately after the declaration of the result and expressed his gratitude to the people of Assam and the legislators. Dr Singh said that his election to the Rajya Sabha gave him another opportunity to serve the people of Assam.

“I shall try to be worthy of the honour bestowed on me and continue to provide all possible help to the people of Assam in the days to come,” the Prime Minister said.

It may be mentioned here that Dr Singh, a prominent economist, started his political career as a Rajya Sabha member from Assam in 1991.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has congratulated Dr Singh for being elected to the upper House for the fourth consecutive time. Gogoi said that by choosing to contest the Rajya Sabha polls from Assam Dr Singh proved his affection towards the State. He said that a number of projects have been cleared during the tenure of Dr Singh as the Prime Minister and hoped that the State would continue to receive same kind of support from the Prime Minister in the days to come.
