The human trafficking situation in North East has
once again raised the eyebrow of the people of North East. It has been trend
that most of the young girls and women are getting trafficked in the pretext
of better livelihood options and in the process getting exploited. The
reported cases has been on raised, last three months there are 10 cases of
North East girls being rescued during the raid and rescue operation by
different Anti- Trafficking Organizations and these cases have been referred
to NEDAN Foundation for the repatriation process. NEDAN Foundation has
already started informing other partner organizations of Assam & North
East for repatriating the girls. One girl hails from Nagaland and she has been rescued
at Goa . She was being rescued from commercial sexual exploitation and has
been rehabilitated at the State Protective Home, Goa . The Sub- divisional
Magistrate has passed an order for her release and NEDAN is facilitating for
her return. Two girls from Baksa district of Bodoland Territorial
Council (BTC) have been rescued by the workers of the Protective Home,
Mumbai. They were being trafficked by the agents with the promise of
providing jobs in Mumbai. The traffickers were in the process of selling
them off but fortunately they could runaway and took help from local people
in Mumbai. Their stay in Protective Home Mumbai term has been over and both
were in the process of repatriated with the support of NEDAN. Similar case of a Karbi girl from Morigaon District,
Assam has been received by NEDAN. She was taken with the promise of
marriage. After one-week girl called up her friend and her parents
from one of a P.C.O from Silchar where she expressed about her case to the
parents. Recently girl father came to NEDAN office for the help and to get
her back home. NEDAN instructed her father to get some formalities done by
filing an FIR in the local Police Station before proceeding for the rescue
and repatriation of the girl. Five girls have been rescued and repatriated from
Bangalore and all of them are minors. Five of them hail from Basti Kukila
Posti, Sumpur/Gohpur District, Assam. They were rescued from Bangalore Bus
stand while heading to Goa . All the girls are at the Girls’ Shelter Home.
NEDAN has been informed by the Bangalore based partner organisation. Their
repatriation is being facilitated by NEDAN.
