The BJP had told the EC in January that the 25 legislators, including the previous Chief Minister Gegong Apang, were holding posts of chairmen of different boards and advisors to Chief Minister and parliamentary secretaries but a constitutional provision barred legislators from holding offices of profit cannot be changed by enactment of a law by any State Assembly as was done in the State. “When we are awaiting the verdict of the EC, the new government of Dorjee Khandu by an ordinance appointed seven legislators as parliamentary secretaries defeating the spirit of the law limiting the size of the Ministry in order to lessen the burden on the State exchequer,” Tiga said.
