flays appointments in Arunachal
Opposition BJP criticised the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu
for the recent appointment of seven ruling Congress MLAs with rank and
status of Minister of State, which, he said, would entail a huge burden on
the State exchequer and defeat the purpose of the law limiting the size of
ministries.
In a release, the general secretary and spokesman of the State unit of BJP,
Tai Tagak, said that the appointments of the MLAs through an ordinance,
promulgated on April 18, are in violation of Article 164(1) (amended).
He said that already 25 MLAs were facing disqualification as the petitions
filed by BJP against them for holding offices of profit are under
consideration of the Election Commission and thus sub-judice.
Fresh appointment of seven MLAs as Parliamentary Secretaries last week were
made by Khandu who promised to root out corruption on taking over the chief
ministership last month, the release said adding BJP would not compromise
with mismanagement by the State Government.
