NSCN-K leader moots Hurriyat formula

The Khaplang faction of the NSCN has issued a blanket order to eliminate the members of the rival Isak-Muivah faction. To implement the order in totality, the faction, throughout Nagaland, has deputed several hit-men who has claimed to have killed at least three functionaries of NSCN-IM belonging to its civil setup in last few days, one each at Mokokchung, Kohima and Dimapur.Kughalu Mulatonu, supervisor of the outfit’s Ceasefire Supervisory Board has earlier said that the killing order must be implemented in totality as the rival NSCN-IM have killed many innocent Nagas to pave the way to its surrender to the Government of India. The announcement of the blanket order has come within eleven months of its earlier announcement of ‘quite notice’ to Tangkhuls from Nagaland.

Sources said that the leadership of NSCN-IM has ordered its cadres not to retaliate till they are attacked to facilitate peace and reconciliation with the rival NSCN-K. The offer has been flatly rejected by NSCN-K.
Meanwhile, a senior functionary of the NSCN-K, A Z Jami holding the rank of the convenor of the ‘Kilonsers’ (Ministers) of the outfit has suggested for a Jammu and Kashmir type of Hurriyat Conference, the amalgamation of several separatist groups.

This would be the only option to salvage the survival of Nagaland, he said adding, my suggestion is that after stopping mutual accusations and killings, merging together all the factions into a single organization or creating a common platform by keeping each opther’s identity something like Hurriyat Conference in J & K, is the only option to salvage the survival of Naga nation.

Jami, however, ruled out amalgamation of both the factions of the NSCN as demanded by the Naga people.
Accusing his former colleagues Isak and Muivah of compromising the rights of the Naga people, the erstwhile functionary of the NNC and NSCN-IM squarely blamed both the leaders for the fratricidal killings among the Naga people and demanded for an apology for the crimes.

Earlier, I Panger Walling group of NNC had also mooted for such formula, at the time when the leaders of the group met with the NSCN-IM. The NSCN-IM turned down the suggestion.Jami was once a member of the NNC and later joined Isak-Muivah faction of NSCN and now holds the portfolio of the convenor of Ministers in the NSCN-K.The main reason for his defection from the IM faction, among many, according to him was lack of transparency in the talks with the Centre. He said though his outfit is maintaining ceasefire with the Centre since April 28, 2001, there was no political obligation, which means they can pull out from the agreement any time if it is not in the interest of the Naga cause.
