Chavang Kut, the post-harvest festival of Kuki-Chin-Mizo tribes was celebrated across Manipur. The festival was being celebrated in all the Kuki-Chin-Mizo inhabited areas of the region while the grand State-level Kut festival was held at the Parade Ground of the 1st battalion Manipur Rifles. Manipur and Meghalaya Governor Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu was the chief guest at the morning session of State-level celebration. Addressing the gathering, Governor Dr Sidhu said the festival symbolizes compassion, gaiety and gratefulness. Cutting across the barriers of caste, creed and religion, the festival provides a unique opportunity to every human being to make a sincere retrospection of his own thoughts and values. “Let the Kut spread the message of peace, harmony, brotherhood, compassion and forgiveness. I trust that the festival will be celebrated in its true spirit and will strengthen peaceful co-existence among various ethnic groups”, he said. State Chief Minister O Ibobi was the chief guest at the evening session where the Miss Kut beauty pageant was held. Kut is celebrated on November 1 since the last few decades and the day has been officially declared as holiday. Of late, the festival has broken all ethnic and religious barriers and become one of the most popular festivals of Manipur. The main attraction of the festival at Parade Ground was the Miss Kut pageant. Fashion parade and beauty contests which are held as part of the festival has become extremely popular over the years.
