November 7, 2005, Tokhu Emong festival of the Lotha Naga tribe was celebrated with colourful extravaganza. The celebrations attracted hundreds of students. Zuchamo Yanthan Festival brings people together. On November 7, 2005, Tokhu Emong festival of the Lotha Naga tribe was celebrated with colourful extravaganza. The venue ‘Shankar Lal Hall’, located at the heart of the University of Delhi attracted hundreds of students cutting across nationalities and diverse ethnic backgrounds witnessed the colourful tradition and unique culture of the Lotha Naga community. The joyful sound of music, song and dances which were part of the festival, brought the crowd together with laughter and joyful spirit. Music transcends all the barriers of religion, race, culture, society and so on and so forth. Here was one occasion when the mellifluous music and songs kept the audience spellbound. They kept asking for more. Ntsen Humtsoe, the theme speaker expressed in evocative words the essence of Tokhu Emong festival. He said, “Tokhu Emong is a day of joy and thanksgiving. A day when we remember with grateful hearts the farmers, the cattle, the mother earth and the whole creation and its creator.” A harvesting festival, Tokhu Emong is also a special occasion when the farmers visit one another exchanging rice meat, gifts and strengthen the relationship bond. “The most impressive aspects of this festival is that past rancor is forgiven and new ties and bonds of closer intimacy are formed”. Sapu Battacharya, Chief Guest on this occasion was all praise for the Nagas and the North-Eastern community in general. Mr. Bhattarcharya opined “the North-Easterners are second to none in all aspects”. One of the main attraction of the day was the fashion show. The models displayed some of the rich collections of Lotha Naga costumes which has now been gathering national and international attention in the fashion industry. Adding a special flavour to this cultural evening was the dance performance from Fiji. The Fijian dancers stole the show with their colourful and lively recital. The programme ended with rock and roll sound of music led by William at the vocal, Benjamin at the lead, Mhabemo at the bass, Mhathung at the rhythm and Tsenchamo Yanthan at the Drums!
