Farewell to ground rules

Once again NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) are indulging in subversive activities, showing no respect to the ground rules.

Bidding goodbye to the ground rules framed to make the ongoing ceasefire in Nagaland successful, underground organizations NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) have once again indulging in subversive activities.

While former DGP of Nagaland Hesso Mao was shot from point blank range by suspected NSCN (K) cadres, armed cadres of NSCN (IM) have abducted the pastor of the Chakhesang Mission Centre Church Nuvosaye Vese, the Chairman of the Pfutsero Town Council (PTC) Dingulo Khutso, SIS Pfutsero Chikhro Khutso, Government GB Pfutsero Puneru, a public leader and former PTC committee member Vehushu, another former PTC chairman Yekhuse Tureng and Khuzuhu.

Late M. Hesso Mao, IPS, former DGP Nagaland was decorated with the Governor’s Gold Medal in 1973, the President’s Police Medal for meritorious service in 1992 and President’s Police Medal for distinguished service in 2003.

Condemning the killing of Mr. Hesso in the strongest term, Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta said, “In his death, we lost an excellent officer, who is well known for his devotion in duty.” “The State Government condemns this inhuman and barbaric act, which could have been carried out only by demented minds, “said Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. “This is an act of mindless violence, which has more sinister implications. It is aimed at disturbing the hard earned peace. Such acts of violence have the potential to derail the fragile peace process,” he added. Promising that the government will leave no stone unturned to bring the culprits to book and punish them as per the law of the land”, Mr. called upon all sections of the society to come together and join hands in removing violence and bloodshed from the society. “I am very sorry because I could not provide sufficient security to Late Hesso Mao,” said Home Minister Thenucho adding that he was not aware that ‘this thing will happen.’ He said that every responsible people must come out openly and bring the culprits to book so that justice will be done.

On the abduction of Pastor, NSCN (IM) claimed that Vese is an agent of Indian intelligence. According to the underground organisation, the pastor had informed the Indian Army about the whereabouts of NSCN cadres. “If the church is prepared to defend the pastor for his anti-national activities then we will take our own course of action,” the NSCN official warned.

But those, who know Vese are strongly refuting the claims made by NSCN (IM). K Mero, secretary of the CBCC Mission said  that the pastor was a respected man and that it was highly improbable that Vese would work for the Indian Army. “We have known him for a long time and have found him to be a good man,” the secretary said.

The Church Board of the Chakhesang Mission Centre Church strongly condemneud the incident  and appealed for the release of Vese without any conditions. Meanwhile, both the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and the Nagaland People’s front have demanded the immediate release of those detained.
