According to BJP vice president M. Venkaiah Naidu administration in Manipur had totally collapsed and there was no rule of law. “The O. Ibobi Singh Government has completely failed. The Centre should impose President’s Rule without any delay, he stressed.”

In accordance to Mr. Naidu’s observation the state unit of the party had also demanded imposition of Central rule and holding elections under it to restore rule of law and governance. The BJP demand came after a three-day conference of the state unit of the party.

Clarifying the reasons behind his demand, Mr. Naidu said that there was parallel administration and the government could not ensure safety of the lives of the citizens, political leaders could not move freely and government employees are paying extortion money.

Despite funds coming from the Centre, the people could not get benefits of these because of high rate of corruption in the government, said Mr. Naidu. He informed that BJP would launch a movement nationwide for imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur.

The BJP leader further stated that the party stands for safe guarding territorial integrity of all the states in the North-East. Any unilateral decision on changing the boundary of a state is not good. The matter can be discussed by the Parliament, he said. He had also informed that BJP is opposed to UNC’s non cooperation movement.

On the plebiscite demand made by UNLF, Mr. Naidu said that “it is not possible. The government of India is willing to discuss the problems of the region. They should come forward and hold talks with the government.” “In a democratic country the only means to resolve any conflict is through negotiations. Another alternative is that the militant groups can come out and fight the elections,” he observed.

BJP vice president is optimistic that the party will come to power in Assam after the next state assembly election. He seemed to be happy with the progress that BJP has made in this region so far.

Mr. Naidu was in Imphal in connection with the BJP conference called Chintan Baithak. The conference discussed about strengthening the party and also the forthcoming Assembly election in Manipur. Mr. Naidu said it is too early to decide about having any electoral ties.
