Delhi Tokhu Emong Fest 2006
Zuchamo Yanthan

Tokhu emong fest 2006 was a multi-faceted colourful extravaganza that attracted thousands of people, cutting across all cultures and nationalities to witness the unique culture of the Lotha Naga community. The foreign nationals comprised of people from the USA, Germany, UK, Sweden, France, Holland, the Middle East, Korea, Russia, Thailand etc were all praises for the colourful heritage of the Naga peoples and promised to visit Nagaland in the near future.

Dr.Benrithung Murry, a lecturer at Delhi University, expressed in evocative words the essence of Tokhu Emong Festival. He said, "Tokhu Emong is a day of joy, thanksgiving, sharing, reconciliation and strengthening relationships. The most impressive aspect of this festival is that past rancour is forgiven and new ties and bonds of closer intimacy are forged". Mr. Moangwati Aier, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House, New Delhi, released the first issue of the Lotha Students' Union of
Delhi's magazine. The presence of Mr.Moangwati.Aier, Dr.Jacob Cherian, Vice principal of St.Stephens' college, Mr.Bobby Singh, Managing Director of Bob Entertainment, Prof.Monika Datta, Provost of International Student's Home for Women, was highly appreciated and was warmly received by the gathering. One of the main attractions of the fest was the fashion show. The models displayed the rich collection of Modern Lotha Naga costumes, which has been gathering national and international attention within the fashion industry. Miss.Mhalo Ngully, former Miss.Nagaland, assisted the Choreography of the fashion show. Upcoming fashion designers, Mr. Stephen Lotha, and Miss. Grace Humtsoe, now familiar names in the haute couture of Delhi, displayed their magnificent designs, which encouraged the people of the North East to take up
fashion designing as a respectable way of life. Hairdresser, Mrs. Zuchobeni Lotha, also a familiar name in Delhi's fashion industry, added her personal touch to the models and was assisted by Merilyn Odyou the make-up artist.

Youth With A Mission (YWAM) presented a very heart warming choreography, which actually stole the show with its vibrant and brilliant rhythmic music "UNDIGNIFIED". The gaps between the show was filled by an excerpt from a documentary on the Lotha Naga made by Mr.Zuchamo Kikon (Kohima) Adding special flavour was the Mr. INDIA bodybuilding demonstration, under the theme, "Take good care of your health". The body building show was a grand success with the lively recital. One of the main objectives of body building demonstration was to create health fitness
awareness among the youth.

The evening ended with the joyful sound of music from Chumjamo, Mhabemo, Benjamin, Lobeno, Tsuroshan and the HANPIKT band led by Benri Kikon. The joyful sound of music, songs and dances brought the crowd together with laughter and enthusiastic spirit. Music certainly transcended all barriers of religion, race, culture, and society. Here was one occasion, when the mellifluous music and songs kept the audience spellbound.
