Lifetime Achievement Award for Bhupen Hazarika

Assam Govt. honours Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, cultural icon of North-East, with Pramathesh Chandra Barua Lifetime Achievement Award.

Cultural icon of North-East, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Assam Government in the State Film Awards Festival. Dr. Hazarika received the award named after  legendary Pramathesh Chandra Baruah. 28 awards being given away to various artistes, directors, producers and technicians associated with the Assamese film industry during the award ceremony.

Assam Cultural Affairs Minister  Gautom Bora said that the festival honoured those who had made significant contributions to the development of Assamese films. The Minister also spelt out some initiatives of the State Government to encourage the State film industry and appreciated the role of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Mr. Bora informed that the Jyoti Chitraban was being developed into a mini film city. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has already allocated Rs. 10 crore for this purpose. Mr. Bora promised  to provide more encouragement to cinema hall owners so that they could promote Assamese films among a larger audience. Among those who received honour were several noted artistes, producers, directors and technicians. Among the films that hogged the limelight were Anurag, Laj, Monot Birinar Jui, and Six Days of Creation. Artistes and technicians associated with these films received accolades.

On the occasion, a souvenir, Chalachitra Jyoti was released, a publication that dealt with various aspects of Assamese cinema. Eminent film personality and veteran comedian Asrani was also present at the award ceremony. He was felicitated by the organizers.
