Bhandari accuses Chamling of discrimination

Accusing the Pawan Kumar Chamling government of allegedly discriminating against the supporters of opposition parties in getting various financial benefits under the Central and local schemes, former Chief Minister Nar Bahadur Bhandari reportedly asked the State government to mend its ways or face legal consequences.

“The State government has made it mandatory to get the area MLAs recommendation for obtaining financial benefits under the central and local welfare schemes apparently in a bid to prevent the supporters of opposition parties from being considered for the benefits,” he said in a statement.

Bhandari, who is also the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) President, said that he has received feedback from his party workers that the people loyal to the opposition parties were reportedly being denied the old age pension, caste certificates, income certificate and empanelment for award of contractual works as the concerned area MLA allegedly did not recommend their cases to the authorities. The State government should immediately withdraw the draconian and illegal order, which he said was violation of the fundamental rights of the people under the constitution failing which it will have to face legal consequences soon, the former Chief Minister warned.
