Foul play says Manipur

In view of the raising pitch of the Nagas over greater Nagalim, Manipur state uint of the BJP has demanded a fresh assurence from Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh about integrity of the State. Led by its state unit president T. Chauba Singh a BJP delegation recently met the Prime Minister and requested him to reaasure the people of Manipur that territorial integrity of the State would not be disturbed.

Meanwhile Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) has claimed that the Prime Minister has rejected the demand of greater Nagalim and assured that no decision in this regard would be taken without the consent of the people of Manipur. A delegation of MUSU recently met the Prime Minister along with Inner Manipur MP T. Meinya.

ˇ§We are very happy with the outcome of the meeting with the Prime Minister as he minced no words in rejecting the demand of grater Nagaland,ˇ¨ said one influential MUSU leader.

On the other hand United Committee of Manipur (UCM) has urged all political parties of Manipur to take action against those members who attended the Kohima integration rally. All together five Naga MLAs and one Naga MP from Manipur participated in the said rally.

Commenting on the stand taken by UCM, Naga Hoho general secretary Niengulo Krome said that all these years there had been too much emotional outburst on the part of UCM. He advised UCM to become more sober and speak in a gentlemanly manner. If any action is taken on the Naga MLAs and MP, it will give more space to the Nagas to integrate,ˇ¨ Naga Studentsˇ¦ Federation remarked.

The Manipur unit of the BJP also drew Prime Ministerˇ¦s attention to the deteriarating law and order situation of the State. In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, the BJP said: ˇ§People talk openly about the unholy nexus of certain underground outfits and some ministers of the Ibobi Cabinet. Sir, this is a very serious issue and needs a thorough probe by the Central Agency like the C.B.I. Cases of extortions, kidnappings, killings and forcible tax collection by undergrounds is the order of the day. The administration does not exists in the entire Hill areas of Manipur and people are left to the mercy of anti- social and anti- national elements. The State Government has totally failed to protect lives and properties of the citizens in the state of Manipur.ˇ¨

Due to rampart corruption, gross misuse and diversion of funds given by the Central Government, the people at large are kept away from the developmental work in Manipur. Misusing the Central Funding has become a common practice and the state has not been submitting the utilization certificates on time. All this has led to a very serious and ever deteriorating financial crisis. Sir, we earnestly make an appeal to you to look into this. In this case also, we demand a through inquiry by the CBI and urge you to take stern action against the culprits whoever they are.

The BJP also expressed that elected representatives from Gram Panchayat onwards upto the Zilla Parishad level have not yet given their due share of authority and therefore the entire Panchayati Raj system has not only become ineffective but also become a farce in the State.
