North East News Agency After failing
to meet Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, the Jamiat Ulema-Hind leaders in
Tripura have come down heavily on the Left Front Government for doing
nothing to uplift the socio-economic condition of the Muslim people in the
State. The Muslim
leaders who held a rally recently were particularly critical of Chief
Minister for not giving them time for deputation. Thousands of
Muslims under the banner of the Jamiat Ulema had gathered here from
various parts of the State to submit a 12-point charter of demands to the
Chief Minister. The demands
included reservation for Muslims in government jobs and allotment of three
Assembly segments for minority people. Sharp
reaction triggered among the Muslim leaders when they came to know that
the Chief Minister would not take deputation as he had left the State for
Delhi. While
addressing the gathering, Mufti Tayebur Rahaman, president of the Jamiat
Ulema Hind severely criticized the Chief Minister for not informing them
before hand about his preoccupation. “The Chief
Minister could have informed us earlier so that we could have postponed
the programme. But it has not happened reflecting the Chief Minister’s
negative attitude towards the minority people”, Rahaman said. “The
decisions of the Left Front Government are against the aspirations of the
Muslim people and anti-minority”, he said adding that it did nothing for
the welfare of the minority community. He warned the
Left Front Government of impending danger as it has not paid heed on the
Muslim people. Rahaman also criticized School Education Minister Keshab
Majumder for his alleged comment on burkha. “Cap, burkha and beard are
integral part of Muslim culture”, he said. Rahaman
demanded that the School Education Minister should apologize for his
‘derogatory’ remark on burkha. Tripura | North East Enquirer (Headlines) | Nena Home Page | |
