The
first phase of the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR),
Dimapur, with 150 beds will be operational by October 2007. This was
stated by Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio recently. The
CIHSR is placed under a joint venture by the Government of Nagaland,
Christian Medical College, Vellore and Emmanuel Hospital Association. The
Chief Minister also said that a Medical College and a Nursing College are
also to be included in the CIHSR project. He said that the Nursing School,
attached to the Kohima Hospital authority is being upgraded to a Nursing
College to be operational within the current financial year. The
Chief Minister stated that the National Rural Health Mission, launched in
the State in 2005, seeks to provide effective health care for the rural
population in the State. During 2006-07, upgradation of all district
hospitals was taken up and works at Peren, Wokha, Phek and Zunheboto have
been completed. Accident and Trauma Centres at Mokokchung, Wokha,
Medziphema, Pfütsero and Chozuba have been completed while those at
Tseminyu, Dimapur and Chiephobozou are nearing completion. The
Chief Minister also said that an Intensive Critical Care department was
recently inaugurated at the Naga Hospital, fully equipped with the latest
equipments of international standard, along with save-a-life central
pharmacy. He appealed to all sections of the society to extend a helping
hand to the State Government in its fight against the HIV epidemic. Chief
Minister, Neiphiu Rio has further stated that animal husbandry has great
