Political rivals plotting to eliminate me: Apang

The inner turmoil of the ruling Congress party in Arunachal Pradesh seems to be taking a scandalous shape, with senior Congressman and former Chief Minister Gegong Apang revealing that some of his political rivals within the party are hatching plans to eliminate him.

Apang claimed that his life was in danger, said, “ My political rivals know that it is not possible to end my political career and that is why they are trying to finish me physically.”He also cited instances where a series of attacks were instigated against him, including the one in 2003 where people were hired from Assam to kill him.

The State’s longest serving Chief Minister further alleged that a group of politically influenced people have brought in baseless allegations against him which also includes a case of siphoning of funds from the Co-Operative Bank.

“Thereafter, my name was linked with a series of baseless controversies like the Raffle draw controversy and also for possessing wealth disproportionate to my income,” Apang rued.

“These people by resorting to such unfair tactics are trying to defame and humiliate me and my son,” Apang said.

When asked whether Dorjee Khandu, the present Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh is masterminding the whole show against him, Apang neither denied nor agreed to the assertion.

He, however, categorically said that during the course of the investigation, one of the investigating police officers said that ‘there is tremendous pressure from the top to arrest the accused persons’.

“I do not want to say who the ‘person in the top’ could be. You all can make out yourselves. As the matter is sub-judice, I do not want to make any statement on that,” he reiterated.

“On the basis of a false FIR lodged by a group of politically influenced youths, the Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested some important persons and forced them to make confessions to implicate me in the case,” Apang alleged.

“As a result of this, I was forced to file a writ petition before the Gauhati High Court for the protection of my Fundamental Rights and the Court stayed all further steps in investigation of the criminal case registered against me,” he revealed.

“I do not want to take any one’s name, but it is unfortunate that such things are taking place when my own party is in power,” he stated.

Apang further informed that he has written a letter to the party high command in New Delhi apprising them of the existing situation in the State.

“I am a true soldier of the Congress party and it is for this reason that I had kept silent for the last five months,” Apang added.

“I want the CBI to probe into the matter so that everything would be crystal clear,” Lapang demanded.
