Sarba Siksha Abhiyan in Cachar
THE Sarba
Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme is making rapid strides in the Cachar
district. Construction of 55 L P School buildings is in progress. These will
be ready by December 2003. Work on Block Resource Centre (BRC) building at
Norsingpur, Salchapra, Katigora and Rajabazar will be taken up shortly.
Financial grants for repairing and renovation of additional classrooms in
142 L P Schools in the district will also be released very soon. Under the
community mobilisation component (CMC) of SSA, school grants for the year
2001-2002 and 2002-2003 to all the 2016 schools have already been disbursed.
Under the CMC, half-yearly block level convention for presidents in 8
development blocks have also been completed. Mobilisation campaign using
local folk items have already been started in 99 tea gardens areas in the
district and felicitation to Gaon Panchayats (which have enrolled 100 per
cent children of the age group of 5-6 years) will also be given during the
current month. Under Siksha Sarathi 1 and Siksha Karmi 1, about 760 persons
have been trained and another 600 persons will be trained. The Computer
Aided Learning in Elementary Schools (CALIES) project is also being
implemented in 25 schools and work on the installation is almost complete.
Under the NGO’s intervention programme in Silchar town, remedial teaching of
class I and II has been started to give support for the children of the age
group of 5-7 years. Long-term bridge course centre has also been started in
four places in Silchar town, where 225 children have enrolled their names.
The SSA, Cachar has also a plan to start short-term bridge course and long
term bridge course shortly to reach the children working as domestic
servants, vendors and grocery and tea stall boys. |
