Meghalaya portal MEGHALAYA Chief Minister D. D. Lapang has launched the Meghalaya State Agriculture Marketing Portal, www.megamb.nic.in This online market information system has been designed and developed by the National Informatics Centre(NIC). Meghalaya is the first state in the region to have its own agricultural marketing portal. Speaking about farm marketing, the Chief Minister said, “The farmers are a neglected lot, though 81 per cent of the State’s population are dependant on agriculture for their living. Despite the fact that the entire northeastern region has a tremendous potential for agricultural development, the farmers face numerous obstacles in the form of natural calamities. Banking problems or marketing bottlenecks are hampering their development”. Identifying illiteracy as a major cause for the poor development of the agricultural sector, Lapang hoped that the launch of the portal would help the farmers equip themselves with necessary information, which will go a long way in improving their lot and the State as well. The portal will provide
prompt information about what is happening in the market, what quantities
are arriving, and what prices are quoted for different commodities from
different rural primary markets in the State. |
