Arunachal Cong criticises Advani

REACTING to the recent visit of Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has criticised Mr Advani for neglecting various burning issues of the State including the Chakma-Hajong refugee issue during his visit. In a press release, the APCC has criticised the policies of BJP-led NDA Government in the Centre towards solving various problems including the vexed Chakma-Hajong refugee issue. Blasting the activities of Gagong Apang-led ministry in Arunachal Pradesh, the party said that Mr Apang gave an impression that Mr Advani was to provide clarification on the Chakma-Hajong refugee issue. “It’s really unfortunate that Mr Advani failed to utter a single word on the issue”, the APPCC said.

The party also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Gegong Apang on moral ground in this regard. Expressing serious concern over the alleged negligence of BJP-led NDA Government towards Arunachal, the APPCC said that Mr Advani’s silence on various demands of the people of the State including grant-in-aid of Rs 200 crore per annum for at least two years, demand for peace bonus, demand of the conversion of existing metre gauge railway line into broad gauge on the north bank of Brahmaputra at least up to Ruksin and Kharsang on the south bank have evoked strong resentment in the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee.
