Tripura tribals vow to root out militancy

People’s apathy towards violence has significantly contributed in reducing the number of violent incidents in Tripura. People’s apathy towards violence and yearning for peace has significantly contributed in reducing the number of violent incidents in Tripura in the last two months. With assistance from the public the security forces have been successful in combating militancy in the restive State.

People’s resolve for peace was further strengthened by the fact that International Police Organisation (Interpol) has issued Red Corner notice against 16 ultra leaders. They are Chitta Deb Burman (ATTF), Rajkanta Deb Burman (ATTF), Priya Deb Burman (ATTF), Suman Deb Burman (ATTF), Satish Deb Burman (ATTF), Ashok Deb Burman (ATTF), Banu Deb Burman (ATTF), Binay Deb Burman (ATTF), Biswajit Deb Burman (ATTF), Bimal Deb Burman (ATTF), Bishwamohan Deb Burman (NLFT), Ranjit Deb Burman (ATTF), Sarojit Deb Burman (ATTF), Ratul Deb Burman (ATTF), Dhanu Koloi (NLFT), Fal Kumar Deb Burman (ATTF). Beyond doubt, it’s a major blow to the underground outfits active in Tripura.

Encouraged by the latest developments, the tribal community of South Tripura district has vowed to root out insurgency from the region and has decided to launch massive anti-insurgency campaign. People from Reang, Chakma and Mog communities have united in South Tripura district where two veterans of Mog community were killed by the insurgents recently. “The insurgents had killed the two tribals in retaliation after their sons were employed as Special Police Officers (SPOs). The ultras continue to threaten the two families,” Thangfru Mog, an elderly member of the Mog community said. “But we will not cow down before the threats of the insurgents who are responsible for the misery of the innocent people,” he asserted. He said people from Reangs and Chakmas  have also joined hands in the fight against the insurgents. As a part of the anti-insurgency campaign, the villagers took several important decisions in a meeting held recently at Killa. They decided to hand over to police anybody abetting the insurgents, provide information about the movement of the ultras to the security personnel and stop giving subscription to the ultras. Appeals would also be made by the family members to the insurgents to shun the path of violence, Mog said. In a significant move, Reangs from Raiabari and Killa villages attended the gathering. These villages were once NLFT strongholds but frequent incidents of extortions, abductions, and torture have turned the people against the ultras.
