Centre to build tourism infrastructure in NE THE tourism potential of North East, which is rich in natural resources and has unique cultural heritage is yet to be tapped. Lack of proper infrastructure and innovative marketing strategies continue to be the biggest impediments before the tourism industry of the region. Union Minister of State for Small Scale Industries and Department for Development of North East Region (DONER) Tapan Sikdar has assured to convert the North East region into a lucrative tourist destination to attract more tourists by providing various infrastructural facilities. Mr Sikdar has reiterated that the present Central Government was committed towards the development of the region and asked the states in the region to submit viable proposals of developmental projects, specially in the field of tourism, horticulture, industries based on local raw materials and agricultural products. He has also assured that funds would not be a constraint and stressed on proper utilisation of the Central funds. For the speedy development, the Centre was considering constructing 13,500 kms super-express highways connected with the other parts of the country along with more air services to the region. | Headlines
