Tribal king kidnapped in Arunachal

THE NSCN factions have been active in the Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal for the last few years. The rebel groups are involved in large scale extortions. The two districts are part of the NSCN (IM)’s proposed Greater Nagaland comrpising existing Nagaland and Naga inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal. Tirap is a Naga majority district. A tribal king and his son have been kidnapped allegedly by the NSCN (IM) ultras in Tirap district on December 29. According to district police, underground ultras came to the king’s residence in Kolan village of Lazu circle of the district and kidnapped the duo at gunpoint. After receiving the information the district administration swung into action and has launched a massive search operation to rescue the kidnapped but failed, sources said and added that NSCN (IM) had reportedly claimed a ransom of Rs two lakh for their safe release. Earlier, 18 persons, including nine girls, were kidnapped by the NSCN (K) ultras between December 9 and 12 from various places of Changlang district for forceful recruitment into their rank.
