Help Age India enters Tripura HELPAGE India launched its Adoption Programme under its “Adopt-A-Gran” scheme in Tripura. Governor D N Sahay and the First Lady Manju Sahay attended the inaugural function in Agartala. Marking the occasion HelpAge India presented a cheque of Rs 75,000 to All Tripura SCs, STs & Minority Upliftment Council as its first instalment. The Governor handed over the cheque to Shyamal Deb, the Council chairperson. Mr. Sahay also made a token distribution of clothes and ration to 10 beneficiaries of the HelpAge scheme. About 200 students from leading schools presented a variety programme on the theme of aging and the need to care the old. Anuradha Sen, Zonal In charge (East), Help Age India, spoke on the ageing scenario in the country. She also briefly outlines the objectives of HelpAge Adopt-A-Gran programme. Governor lauded HelpAge India’s multifarious activities. He was happy at the NGO decision to enter Tripura and, he assured all assistance from the government side to Help Age India as well as the inmates of implementing organisation All Tripura SCs, STs & Minority Upliftment Council. Under the adoption programme each disadvantaged and needy person would be given support in kind worth Rs 500 every month. 50 old persons in and around Agartala have been adopted under this scheme, which is being implemented by “All Tripura Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Minority Upliftment Council”. Meanwhile, the
Infrastructure Development Finance Company Limited (IDFCL) in its report on
the flora of Tripura has identified 15 species of medicinal plants and
fifteen medicinal tree species which have a high commercial value. |
