Super moral censor

Buckling under insurgent diktats, the Eastern Motion Pictures Association (EMPA) has decided to play a role of “moral police” for all films to be screened across the northeast. EMPA chairman C.S. Narayan said that the movie halls would continue to show Hindi films despite ultras’ ban. The caveat is all the obscene parts in a movie would be censored. 11 militant outfits of North East and North Bengal have jointly ordered the Hindi film ban effective from coming November 15. The ultras also ordered: no regional films and videos that imitate Bollywood masala.

In a statement, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland’s publicity secretary B. Erakdao said that Hindi movies offer nothing, but attractive cultural brainwashing package to unsuspecting indigenous people of the region and hence deserved to be banned. In Manipur, such ban on Hindi movies is already in place; all Hindi satellite channels excluding Aaj Tak are banned. It is possible the EMPA may hold another meeting with the leaders of the underground groups soon. .
