MIZO concensus against Myanmarees There is an across the board consensus in Mizoram on not allowing the Myanmarese beyond the period of welcome. So, no surprise, the Zoramthanga government met with approval to its drive against Myanmarese living in the State. The endorsement came at a meeting of NGOs, and political parties chaired by Home Minister R Tlanghmingthanga. Young Mizo Association, Mizoram Upa Pawl, Mizo Hmeichhe Insuikkhawm Pawl, Mizo Zirlai Pawl sent their representatives to the meeting. Now the Government is drafting rules to regulate the entry of Myanmarese. This is being done under the Indian Passport Act and notifications issued under the Act. Myanmarese nationals will be allowed upto 40 km inside Mizoram from the international border. But for this permits will be issued and their stay regulated, said Tlanghmingthanga. A head count of all Myanmarese nationals living in the
State has been. The number is put at 9,224.and they are spread over all the
eight districts. Aizawl district has the highest number of 2,146, followed
by the Champhai with 2,007. The southern district of Lawngtlai has the
lowest number – just 190 Myanmareses. |
