ULFA and eight other militant organisations ban on screening Hindi films comes into effect across the North-East from November 15. Cine buffs and distributors alike are worried. The All Assam Film Distributor Workers’ Union and Sadow Asom Bolsobi Karmi Santha are  simmering with anger. They held a mass rally towards September end.

A joint meeting of the two organisations chaired by Raghubir Singh.expressed deep concern over the ban and termed it as anti-national. Upen Talukdar, state secretary, Nikhil Bharat Trade Union Congress also attended the meeting It said that ifthe ban is executed, then many of the employees associated with thefilm industry in the North-East, would become jobless. The states

would have to bear the burnt of more unemployed people. It would bring darkness to the families of thousands of people directly or indirectly associated with the film industry. The meeting said that such an unprecedented move would also affectthe cultural scenario of the State. Therefore, the joint meetingurged the militant organisation to withdraw their ban on Hindi filmand appealed to the people specially to the students community, cultural organisations, and social organisations to voice their protest against the move.
