BNLF demands BRU development corporation The underground Bru National Liberation Front has demanded establishment of a Bru development corporation by the Mizoram Government, State Chief Secretary H. V. Lalringa informed. Sahaya for pro-activism North East News Agency TRIPURA Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya has asked the security forces to be more proactive against the militants and make all out efforts to curb insurgency. Be result oriented, is his decree. Senior security officials and the new DGP G M Srivastava gave Sahaya a briefing on the situation in the hilly and interior areas and the strategies being adopted in curbing the militancy. The Governor asked the security personnel not to violate human rights of the people in their exuberance to deal with insurgents. “Terrorists are violators of human rights as they kill innocent people including infants and women”, he noted and was happy that there have been no complaints of human rights violation by the security forces so far. Tripura Governor also reiterated his appeal to the militants to come to the negotiation table and participate in the developmental process for allround development of this backward north-eastern State. “Give up the path of violence. Come to the mainstream of life and get the governmental schemes and benefits,” Mr Sahaya said while visiting the violence-hit Khowai in West Tripura district. All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) guerillas had massacred 30 non-tribal villagers, including children and women, in two villages of this areas on the eve of the Independence Day celebration this year. The Governor and the first lady, Ms Manju Sahaya, talked to the victims’ family members and stayed with them for several hours. They also
distributed relief materials among the victims. The Tripura branch of the
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) has organized this relief distribution camp.
Mr Sahaya is the president and Ms Sahaya the vice-president of the State
branch of the IRCS. Mr Sahaya, a former IPS officer, said developmental work
was largely affected due to the militancy even as the State government had
been making all-out efforts to implement numerous developmental and welfare
schemes and projects. |
