Anti-MNF alliance in totters WHILE there is a move from within the Congress to remove former chief minister Lal Thanhawala, former Mizo National Front (MNF) militants are sixes and sevens on supporting Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) - Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) front in the coming assembly polls. Initially they pledged support to the alliance. Now they have second thoughts, at least a section of them. A sizeable section in the Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA) has shown strong reservations about going against the MNF in the polls. While the PAMRA top leadership is still divided over the issue, the dissidents, led by PAMRA vice-president B Zorampari and general secretary Chalchunthanga, have reportedly met Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and sworn allegiance to MNF. PAMRA president C Lalhmachhuana has announced removal of the dissident leaders from their official posts. He said the dissident leaders would only remain as primary members in the organisation thereafter. Following the squabble, the PAMRA headquarters in Aizawl has been sealed by the police. The dissidents have also accused the PAMRA leadership
of violating the provisions of its bye-laws. Registered as an NGO under the
Indian Societies Act, the PAMRA has no business of siding with any political
party and harbouring political ambitions, said a spokesperson of the
dissidents. The dissidents have also set up an Ad-hoc body to pursue their
line of action.
