Naga Students for VC scalp

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), the apex students’ body, has renewed its demand for the removal of Nagaland University Vice Chancellor Prof G D Sharma. If its demand is not met, it has threatened to resort to stringent action. In a memorandum submitted to State Governor Shyamal Datta, the students’ body had urged for initiation of immediate action so as to restore the dignity and sanctity of the university.

The NSF had time and again demanded for removal of the Vice-Chancellor for alleged mismanagement and gross irregularities in functioning of the university, which they claim had “destroyed the reputation of the institution.” NSF, in the memorandum, also alleged that the State Government had been adopting delaying tactics to frustrate the appeals of the students and teaching community of the university. They lamented that sentiments of the students had been largely ignored even after submission of number of representations to the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The students’ body said that university had been deprived of a competent Vice-Chancellor and alleged that Prof Sharma had been rejected by the Silchar University prior to his appointment here. NSF also alleged that despite the assurances from President A P J Abdul Kalam during his visit in October last year, nothing tangible has happened.
