Recent happenings in
Mokokchung and Tuensang districts, where common people have come out openly
against the underground forces should act as an eye-opener to those who
totally rely on gun power. There is also a message loud and clear that is
applicable to the entire North-East. That is people are fed up with mindless
violence and senseless killings. It is high time for the terror merchants to
heed the signals, realize the futility of violence and join the mainstream
for redrassal of their grievances. Guns achieve nothing but only bring out
bloodshed and pain. People’s ire against the militants is no sudden
development. As a matter of fact, the warning bells were chiming for a
while. Not too long ago, people from all walks of life participated
whole-heartedly in a bandh against violence. The call for the bandh was
given by all political parties of the region, who with their ears to the
ground were the first to sense the groundswell of opposition to the culture
of violence. But the underground choose to ignorents with lofty ideals is
getting blurred. Images of terrorists, who have no concern for any value
system, are appearing everywhere. In the past few years, innocent people
have fallen prey to the reckless gun as the insurgent turned terrorist is
creating unrest, as the forces of destruction and mayhem are fishing in the
troubled waters. How soon this will be a thing of the past is any body
guess. But what is no longer a matter of conjecture is the increasing
aversion of the people to the gun culture and their craving to live in peace
and to strive for higher levels of human resource development. This augurs
well for the future. So is the manifestation of people’s will. |
