Rape forces exodus Aizawl was rocked by an xenophobia incited by the rape. The victim was a minor. The perpetrator was an illegal migrant from Myanmar. The dastardly act took place on July 17 at a Aizawl hotel.. Subsequent developments prompted the exodus of nearly 10,000 Myanmarese who have been illegally staying in Aizawl. 6,125 Myanmarese nationals including 2,908 women had crossed border river Tiau near Zokhawthar police outpost between July 20 and August 15. In fact, almost all localities of the capital town had served a ‘quit’ notice on the Myanmarese guests and fixed August 15 as deadline. Now, the government is working out a systematic identification of and permission for the Myanmarese nationals to enter and live in Mizoram. | Mizoram | North East Enquirer (Headlines) | Nena Home Page | |
