Mizo Church on voting Synod Social Front of the Presbyterian Church of Mizoram has decided to issue an ‘appeal’ to the electorate and political parties in connection with the assembly elections in November-December. In the past also, the Synod Social Front used to give appeals for a free, fair and orderly voting to elect the most deserving. The Front leaders claim such appeals have had a positive impact on the outcome. The church, in every election, asked the electorate through local churches to refrain from accepting money and other things from the politicians and political parties. It also asked the political parties to put up candidates who were free from corruption and other social evils and not to use children for canvassing and also not to indulge in expensive campaigns. Scathing personal attacks
against opposing candidates is also frowned upon by the church. |
