Panchayats for powers Panchayat Raj institutions in Arunachal Pradesh are clamouring for more powers. Under the banner of Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Co-ordination Committee (APPRCC) they asked the state government to confer power and functions to the Panchayati raj institutions as per the 73rd and 74th Amendment of the Constitution. Holding their second convention APPRCC unanimously demanded that the Government should issue directives to the State Finance Commission for early submission of its report regarding development, devolution of power and functions to the Panchayati raj institutions, It said the execution of decentralized fund for the districts should be placed under the disposal of district Zilla Parishad (ZP) and the Chairman of District Planning Committee should be the Chairperson of ZP besides handing over of 29 subjects to Panchayati raj institutions as per Constitution amendment. The meeting also suggested various measures to State Government to strengthen the panchayat raj institutions. The leaders also hoped that under the dynamic leadership of Gegong Apang who himself is a member of the All India Zilla Parishad, the development activities at the grassroots level will be expedited.
