Apang promises disease free Arunachal

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang has urged the health officials and workers to dedicate themselves in the fight against Tuberculosis and to accelerate the process for its control and eradication. He said TB-control programmes and activities should cover the most interior, remote and needy sections of people. Mr Apang was speaking at the first ever three-day North-East India Conference on Tuberculosis-Chest diseases and HIV/AIDS-cum-Regional level review meeting on Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP). He stressed on the need to create mass awareness on the killer
disease and also advocated for active monitoring and supervision for success of RNTCP and DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) programme in the state in particular and the country in general. DOTS has proved to be an effective tool in controlling TB.

Arunachal Pradesh came under this programme in the year 1999 and RNTPC was launched through out the state in 2002.
He said the state government is committed for the cause of a TB and HIV/AIDS free Arunachal for socio-economic development of the state. Claiming that Arunachal Pradesh has made progress in the TB and HIV/AIDS control programme, Mr Apang sought central support and guidance in the endeavour. He stressed that the area of indigenous tribal medicine system and medicinal plants should be explored and called for adequate research in this area. The three-day conference was being attended by top scientists from the world renowned Tuberculosis Research Centre (ICMR) Chennai, eminent TB and Chest diseases experts of the country, senior medical professionals of North-East, including Sikkim, among others. The TB Association of Arunachal, State AIDS Control Society and the State Directorate of Health Services organized the
programme.
