I
I can quit if requested by proper forum: MPCC chief

Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Lal Than Hawla has said he was ready to step down from his post if the request to do so came from the proper forum. The Congress leader said he was ready to face the challenge thrown at
him by the party's treasurer J Lalsangzuala but added the decision would remain in the hands of the people who elected him.
''I am always ready to step down for the good of the party. Had a request for me to do so had come from the proper forum I would have gladly done so,'' he said.

The opposition factions within the party said the MPCC president had been approached time and again by senior leaders to request him to step down.''Our seniors visited him on a number of occasions. But Mr Hawla had flatly refused to step down saying he had no reason to do so,'' an executive member of MPCC pointed out. Meanwhile, Mr Hawla has said he would contest the party elections that have been slated for April 28. 'I have certain principles. If I surrender just because someone
has thrown a challenge, what will the people think of me as a leader?, he added.
