Thakur commitment THE Central Government is committed to infrastructure development in the North-East region and is making funds available for tapping its natural resources there, Minister for Small Scale Industries and North-East Development, C P Thakur said. The Budget has provided Rs 550 crore and the Planning Commission has set apart Rs 500 crore for overall development of the North-East to bridge the distance and psychological gap with rest of the country, he stated pointing out that the region is being linked by road under the Golden Quadrilateral, an ambitious project of the Prime Minister. The road link will bring the ‘eight sisters’ closer to other parts of the country, he opined. Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is monitoring the development of the North-East states. Government has acquired
40-seater aircraft to link capitals and major cities in North-Eastern states
for faster movements; a demand to make Guwahati a hub is under active
