Former Tribal Welfare Minister of Tripura and veteran tribal leader Haricharan Chowdhury died at his house at Sabroom in South Tripura lfollowing protracted illness. He was 85 and survived by his wife, six daughters and two sons. Mr Chowdhury was the Tribal Welfare Minister in the Congress Government led by former Chief Minister Sukhomoy Sengupta from 1972 to 1977. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Tribal Welfare Minister Jitendra Chowdhury condoled his death. Several Government programmes scheduled had been postponed as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
