No ultras behind Apang The Gegong Apang government has denied charges that militant group, active in Tirap and Changlang districts, played a key role in the recent change of guard and said it enjoyed support of legislators. “No wrong
message should go about the tacit support of NSCN in recent change of power.
The new government is not supported by legislators of Tirap and Changlang
districts, but from all parts of the State,” spokesman of the ruling United
Democratic Front Lijum Ronya said after the first cabinet meeting. Denying
the Congress charge that NSCN (IM) played a role in the recent political
developments in Arunachal Pradesh, he said it was sheer misrule and lack of
transparency of the previous regime that prompted people’s representatives
to pledge support to Apang. He said it was difficult to say which ultra
group, any faction of NSCN or others, was involved in the August 1 killing
of the father-in-law of one cabinet minister, C C Singpho, at Bordumsa in
Changlang district. S Singhpho was killed by two gunmen at his home. The
minister said his death was not caused by any political bickering and the
incident was being investigated. Opposition Congress members alleged that
NSCN (Issac-Muivah) group, currently engaged in peace talks with the Centre,
was behind the move to topple the Mukut Mithi government. The Centre had
rebutted the charge. |
