NNC doubtful about peace outcome with Centre

The Naga National Council (NNC), the parent body of all Naga underground organisations has expressed skepticism at the outcome of the peace process between the Centre and the NSCN (IM), saying it was a policy of the Centre to weaken the organisation involved in peace parleys. NNC (Panger faction) general secretary Vixosielho Nagi had said the ceasefire had been continuing for six years and it would go on. In the course of time the Centre would try to disarm and weaken the NSCN and finally leave the issue aside, he added. He said the NNC would resort to arms struggle to address the Naga political problem if the situation at all demanded. Reiterating its stand of “non-violence”, Mr Nagi informed that the organisation so far had not resorted to arms because they believe in bringing a settlement to the Naga issue through political dialogue. Expounding on overall political situation, the NNC leader said the NNC factions could unite if the Adino faction abrogated the infamous Shillong Accord and subsequently vacated the transit camps. On resuming political dialogue with the Centre, the NNC said it would stand by the 1951 plebiscite, which advocated complete separation from India. However, he also asserted that they would go for yet another plebiscite if at all necessary.
