Wanted boundary commission SET up a Boundary Commission to examine the territorial disputes amongst the North-Eastern states, Mizoram Home Minister R Tlanghmingthanga told the Centre. Mizoram has a border dispute with Assam, which in turn has a running feud with Meghalaya and Nagaland. Tlanghmingthanga pointed out that no ground demarcation had been undertaken between Mizoram and Assam. It was more than three decades back; the Lushai hill district of Assam began its journey away from Assam first as a union territory in the seventies and then as state in its own right since the eighties. There is also the long pending demand for amalgamation of all the Mizo-inhabited areas into a single administrative unit. The Mizo Accord signed on June 30, 1986 makes a reference to the demand. Tlanghmingthanga said that a police check gate at Rengtekawn was being set up to check inner line permits of non-tribals entering the State through Bairabi railway station. He added that checking of inner line permits in Aizawl city was necessitated by the entry of non-tribals through the porous State boundaries. | Mizoram | North East Enquirer (Headlines) | Nena Home Page | |
