UNESCO has sanctioned $ 20,000 to Majuli Island Protected and Development Council. Rajya Sahba MP Arun Sharma is the chairman of this body. This move is to be followed by a visit of UNESCO experts to the largest river island. This visit shall take place with a view to preserving this “intangible heritage of humanity” and facilitate its survival.
